Late Night Guests: Second Fiddles

I was watching ''Late Night with Conan O'Brien'' last night and Tony Bennett mentioned something in passing. He said he was on Johnny Carson's debut ep of ''The Tonight Show.'' That is wild, weird stuff. I did not know that.

And that got me thinking. The first guest of a new late-night talkshow gets all the accolades for making a sacrifice, but the other early guests take chances, too. Most of us probably know that Bill Murray has turned himself into the consummate First Guest.^® I don't know about you, but I couldn't name a single second guest.
