If the Swimsuit Fits, Wear It

Since I found today's list of ep titles a bit disappointing, I thought I'd give you a bonus entry.

This time of year you see ads for Victoria's Secret everywhere. These ads made me wonder how TV writers view women. Here's a list of women's measurements, as idealized in ep titles:
  • Her Number Is 36-22-35 ("The Smothers Brothers Show," 3/11/1966)
  • 38-23-36 ("It Takes a Thief," 4/8/1969)
  • Vanessa 38-24-36 ("Quark," 4/7/1978)
  • 36-24-36 (''Sydney,'' 6/4/1990)
  • 36! 24! 36! Dick! (''3rd Rock from the Sun," 1/25/1998)
Even the Femmes have a song called 36-24-36, but how realistic are these measurements?

Well, first of all, they're better than the measurements quoted for the 36-24-73 ep of ''McHale's Navy'' on 2/22/1966.

What about women on TV today? You can do a quick google search (site:imdb.com measurements), and you'll find that Celebrity Sleuth Magazine reports:
  • Famke Janssen: 36-24-36
  • Mariska Hargitay: 36-24-36
  • Heidi Klum: 35-24-35
  • Jennifer Aniston: 34-23-35.5
  • Tyra Banks: 34-28-40 (as revealed on her talk show)
  • Paris Hilton: 34-25-35
  • Teri Hatcher: 34-23-34

My measurements ARE exactly 36-24-36, so NO it is not unrealistic, or unatainable.

Well actually those measurments have were derived from mathematics. Some people have different oppinions about what an attractive woman's body looks like. But mathematically, 36-24-36 refers to a mathematically perfect shape. It's created by the ratio of chest-waist-hips. 36-24-36 just happens to work perfectly unlike any other numbers. Kind of strange.

Hey, you forgot Sir Mixalot's "Baby Got Back"...
"36-24-36? Ha ha, only if she's 5'3"

Ever wondered why the number you can dial to have your dirty deeds done in the song "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" by AC/DC is "36 24 36"?

This song dates from back in 1976... Bon Scott was quite the ladies man. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_Deeds_Done_Dirt_Cheap_(international_album)

It is unrealistic for someone who doesn't have those measurements naturally!

Also you measure around the buttocks and thighs, not the hip bones. I wonder how many of those quoted stats took this into account...it's rare for a women to be bigger on the boobs than the hips unless she has implants.
